History

S/n 00396. 206 GT.

1970–77, 1st owner, Fiammini, Rome, Italy. Bronze originally. Sold new in early 1970.

1977, August, discovered in storage in the Ferrari agency garage in Rome and purchased from Sr. Mauricio Fiammini, its original owner. At that time the odometer showed only 23,000 kilometers, and all of its service records were present in the agency’s files. 1969 year model but not registered until early 1970. One of the last of the Dino 206 GT series produced in an even–numbered series which began with 00096 and ended with 00404, a total of approximately 155 cars.

In the course of negotiating the sale with Mr. Fiammini, it was learned that he had purchased the car new when he was working on the Ferrari assembly line as an engine assembly mechanic. He had been regularly competing on the Italian Formula III circuit and fancied venturing onto the tracks with the Dino as well. However, when his success in Formula III improved dramatically, he decided to apply all his efforts toward his Formula III racing and put the Dino into storage. He was extremely enamored of the Dino and quite reluctant to sell it, but he was also in a serious need of funds to finance his remaining Formula III racing in the 1977 season which he was leading at the time.

1977, October, shipped from Italy to its second owner, Rick Kimball, of Three Rivers California and was driven briefly.

1978, the car was completely disassembled and a frame–up restoration begun by the owner. During restoration, all major engine work was done in Southern California by an Italian engineer/mechanic, Alberto Ferroni, who, quite coincidentally, had been part of the original 206 engine design and development team in Italy before coming to the United States.

206 GT s/n 00396 was stripped to bare metal, resurfaced and painted in acrylic lacquer computer matched to a Ferrari Rosso Chiaro red, all exterior chrome trim was redone in black epoxy powder coating and acrylic headlight covers were installed.

1997, 15 Aug., Carmel Concours. Rick Kimball. Red/black.

1998, 02 June, sold through Michael Sheehan to third owner, Phoenix, AZ.

1998, June, restoration work started by Rod Drew, FAI Motors, Newport Beach, to restore car on behalf of third owner. Engine and gearbox completely rebuilt and partial cosmetic restoration by FAI less than 1,000 miles ago. ($52,500 in receipts).
