Features

1970 Dino (Ferrari) 246 GT “L” model s/n 00786, a true barn find Ferrari. As the first and the most collectable of the 246 Dinos, the “L” model Dinos were European spec only and so s/n 0786 was sold new in Europe in 1970 before coming to the US in 1987. In 1988 246 GT s/n 0786 was sold and was sent to Terry Myr in Michigan for a total restoration. All metal work was done to a very high standard and then primered with the excellent solvent-epoxy based primers no longer available today. The complete engine, transaxle, brakes and suspension were all rebuilt by Terry Myr before going into storage for twenty-seven years! After decades of storage 246 GT “L” Model Dino s/n 00786 started easily with a new battery and fresh gas and was driven to the location for our photo shoot. 246 GT s/n 0786 was originally a medium blue metallic with black, a very attractive color combination, and can be restored for the new owner as a “Silver level” great driver, as a show-able “Gold level” Dino or for those who want to go all the way, 246 GT “L” model s/n 0786 can be treated to a “Platinum level” restoration. A detailed inventory found that the door window glass and the carburetor air box lid are missing. The steering wheel and knockoffs are from a later car and the clock and amp gauge are the incorrect type. The rebuilt engine and transaxle are the correct “L” model type but the engine number on s/n 0786 is L 119 but should be in the L 195 range, while the transaxle number on s/n 0786 is N.275 but should be in the N.350 range. Because they are the correct “L” type engine and transaxle, Ferrari Classiche will issue a Classiche certification upon completion of the restoration.
