We are pleased to offer 1978 USA model 308 GTB s/n 25823. While we rarely offer or deal in 308s, this example was so extensively mechanically serviced and updated that we couldn’t refuse. Only two owners from new and with the first owner from 1978 to 2009, so thirty-one years. Less than two years and only 2,242 miles ago 308 GTB s/n 25823 was treated to very extensive service work and parts detailed over four pages of service work. The engine came out and was fully serviced with a 30k cam-belt service, all belt drive bearings were replaced and the front cover was resealed. The transmission was completely rebuilt with a new gear set, syncros, sliders, a primary shaft, a new main shaft and all new bearings. The clutch was rebuilt and re-faced with Carbon Kevlar, the brakes were rebuilt and all brake lines were replaced. All engine, transmission, brake and coolant fluids were replaced and more. The water pump was updated and the radiator core and both heater cores were replaced. All fuel lines and hoses and all water hoses were replaced. The alternator and starter were rebuilt. A new A/C compressor was fitted and much more. Total cost was $31,448.48 at 50,964 miles. We have all invoices on file.

Last year work continued and the clutch cable was replaced, the rear shocks and axle boots were replaced and the A/C system was completely overhauled. Total cost was $4,844.77 also at 50,964 miles. This year the steering column light switch was replaced. Total cost was $1,500.00 at 51,871 miles. We have all invoices on file. We also have all sales, payment and shipping documentation back to day one from Modern Classics Motors to Bavarian Motors to Blackhorse Motors and to the first owner on file in 1978.

This is a wonderful driving 308 GTB, and all controls are light to the touch and operate seamlessly. With a fresh major service, a completely rebuilt transmission and a new Carbon Kevlar clutch the syncros work smoothly, the clutch grips quickly and the car can be thrown into corners on the back roads of your town with total ease and confidence. Thanks to a stainless steel Tubi system, this 308 GTB has a wonderful exhaust sound through the RPM range.

The original Ferrari red paint looks good in photos but has minor age cracking everywhere! 308 GTB s/n 25823 has been a rust free Southern California car from new. There is no evidence of accident or rust repairs to the body, underside or chassis. The body and paint appear to be completely original. The trim, gaskets, window glass and lenses are all in very good original condition. 308 GTB s/n 25823 sits on 16 x 7 front and 16 x 8 rear Speedline wheels fitted with “as-new” Yokohama AVID V45 tires with P225 x 50 x R16 fronts and P245 x 50 x R16 rears. Also comes with the full set of original 14″ Factory wheels with excellent Michelin XVS tires.

The interior is finished in decent tan leather and the door panels, carpets and dash are also all in serviceable condition! The car makes excellent power with no smoke and has excellent oil pressure. The suspension is firm yet compliant, and the brakes stop the car effectively and evenly. There are only 2,242 miles since this Ferrari had the 30k engine out service, and a full A/C service and brake overhaul. Now has 53,206 miles.

308 GTB s/n 25823 comes complete with the original Factory supplied owner’s pouch and owner’s manual and parts book. It also comes with all listed service and ownership files, the original tool roll for the tools with the full tool set, plus the jack kit and the jack bag.

This Ferrari is very original and has had impressive very recent service work. If you want a great running, great driving 308 GTB which can be painted and upholstered down the road, this is it. Not for sale in California. Priced well below the recent service work at $29,950.
