We are pleased to offer 1981 Ferrari 400i s/n 34845, finished in a very attractive silver metallic with a very nice burgundy leather interior with black inserts. This 400i has been a California car since new, with all ownership records back to the original owner and only three known owners in total. California plates and title, but probably no longer legal in California because of the ever tougher smog laws. Owned by an obsessive compulsive retired aerospace engineer with an impressive documentation file. Has the original owner’s pouch, handbook and the jack kit. Fitted with a well-integrated sun roof with a sliding inner cover, from new with factory dual air, lots of trunk room and a real back seat. The Ferrari 400i was designed to replace the 365 GT4 2+2 and, for the first time in Ferrari’s history, an automatic transmission as standard equipment. Ferrari enlarged the displacement of its venerable 60-degree V-12 engine for the 400 GT and 400i to 4,823cc with dual overhead cams making 340 horsepower. The 400i retained Enzo Ferrari’s long tradition of cam chains and so does not have the dreaded cam-belts that often need an expensive replacement, so common on the Fiat-era Ferraris. The automatic chosen to propel the 400i is GM’s well-proven and bullet-proof Turbo Hydra-matic three-speed transmission. S/n 34845 has excellent and correct Michelin TRX 240/45 ZR 415 tires all the way around. The combination of power from the engine, reliability from the cam chains and transmission and excellent and correct tires, allows 400i s/n 34845 to effortlessly cruise at jail-time speeds all day long.

Introduced at the 1976 Paris Auto Show, the Ferrari 400 Series were the latest 2+2s to continue Ferrari’s tradition of offering true four-passenger luxury sport-touring cars fitted with every possible amenity and signaled the first time a factory-installed automatic was an option. The sedate but attractive Pininfarina-designed body is accented by leather everything on the inside, a cavernous trunk and sporty five-spoke magnesium wheels. This 400i has only 33,013 miles from new, and is very user friendly thanks to the dual A/C. The 400i is the most affordable of any of the Ferrari V-12s. Priced at only $24,950 or best offer, seriously for sale.
