We are pleased to offer 1983 Ferrari 512 BBi s/n 44809. This 512 BBi has been fastidiously maintained, is extremely well-documented from new, is fully serviced and ready to go. Full EPA and DOT releases on file, fitted with nicely integrated federalized bumpers and side markers, with the power killing catalysts and smog equipment removed. Finished in truly superb original Rossa Corsa paint with no black “Boxer bottom”. Has an extremely nice black leather interior with black insert stripes and an “as-new” dash without the shrinkage so common on most Boxers. Still fitted with the original and rare Pioneer radio and power booster.

This unusually nice 512 BBi has had only three well documented owners from new. Sold new by Giuseppe Risi, owner of Ferrari Houston to the original owner, Frank Duvall, Mica, (Near Spokane) WA. In 1986 sold to Derald Ulmer, Gresham, OR and later sold by Derald Ulmer’s estate to its current owner in Oregon in 2005. This pampered Boxer comes complete with all tools and their briefcase, the rare warranty book and warranty card listing the sale by Giuseppe Risi of Ferrari Houston to Frank Duvall, Mica WA; the owner’s manual, the parts book and carrying pouch and has the correct original thin line spare wheel and tire. Only one owner for the last decade and only 16,513 miles total miles from new.

The engine was twin-turbocharged in 1984 by B.A.E. Turbo Charger Systems, and while it has never given any problems, it has just been rebuilt and the turbos removed by Rod Drew’s F.A.I. in Costa Mesa, California. Fitted with new CP pistons and rings, new valve guides and new main and connecting rod bearings on its original standard specification crank. Thanks to a mere 16,513 original miles from new the engine was in extremely good condition and needed little besides the new pistons, rings, bearing and guides. New cam belts and tensioners plus new accessory drive belts and all new water hoses were installed, of course. The transaxle and differential were in excellent condition and after inspection needed nothing! The brakes and suspension are all in excellent condition and have been full serviced. The exhaust system is now all original. Total invoice from Rod Drew’s F.A.I. was $55,578.47. All new air inlet tubes and air boxes built by Beckman Metalworks. Total invoice was $5,925.00. Copies of all invoices on file plus the EPA and DOT releases and ownership records, e-mail us for copies.

The 365 BB, the 512 BB and the 512 BBi represented both Ferrari’s and Pininfarina’s response to the marketing challenge of Lamborghini’s stunning but impractical Miura and Countach. As Ferrari’s first mid-engined flagship, the Boxer featured an all-new horizontally-opposed twelve-cylinder engine longitudinally mounted above the transmission; in the center of mass. As the successor to Ferrari’s very successful 365 GTB/4 Daytona, stylistically the Boxer did not disappoint. Clothed in suitably rakish Pininfarina designed and Scaglietti built bodywork, the Boxer was, and is still today, a stunner. The 512 BBi represents the ultimate development of the Boxer line and was distinguished from the 512 BB and 365 models that preceded it by the introduction of fuel injection, making daily driving both smoother and easier while emissions testing became much less of a headache than with carburetors. Today, the Boxer remains a dramatic and exciting car. Thanks to the impressive torque from the flat 12-engine the 512 BBi is both fast and smooth, yet light and easy to drive.

The interior is all original and is in excellent condition, showing only very minimal wear and no shrinkage, as one would expect with a 16k mile well-cared-for Ferrari. The original Pioneer radio and equalizer are still in place and work well. The carpets are in very good condition, with only minor wear where the driver’s left foot rests. The engine compartment is very clean and nicely detailed, reflecting the recent engine-out rebuild. Much of the plating on the metal components has been renewed, and items such as the intake runners and air boxes are freshly powder coated and in “as-new” condition as well. The front compartment is also very tidy. The windscreen washer reservoir shows as new, and the original “thin line” spare wheel and tire and the spare tire well liner are in place. The underside of the front deck lid is in excellent condition and the tool roll and all tools with their pouch and carrying bag are also in place, as are the full jack kit and jack bag plus the emergency roadside reflector. It even has the original emergency trouble light.

512 BBi s/n 44809 is a low-mileage “Pride of Ownership” Ferrari and thanks to the fresh rebuild runs and drives as new. The engine starts immediately and runs smoothly, making a unique and pleasurable flat-12 sound which is actually quite quiet, thanks to the original exhaust. It pulls cleanly, has acres of torque and makes great power. The transmission shifts well, including second gear and the clutch is light and easy to use. The chassis is tight yet compliant, and the brakes are rebuilt and effective. Thanks to the original Pioneer radio, Pioneer booster and Pioneer door speakers plus the original warranty card, its full set of books, pouch and tools; all original paperwork since new and the correct spare and nicely detail compartments this Boxer should bring home the tin at your next Ferrari Owner’s Club meet. This 512 BBi is exceptionally nice and will not disappoint. We welcome a detailed inspection. The injected Boxers are exceptionally strong to drive in the bottom end, a pleasure around town and much faster than a Daytona. Priced right in today’s market at $339,500.
