We are pleased to offer 512 BBLM conversion s/n 22255. Sold new in 1977 as a standard carbureted 512 BB to Roger Penske, the car was wrecked in a road accident and at the peak of the 1985-1989 Ferrari market the remains were sold to well-known collector Lawrence Stroll. Then shipped to Italy to be fully rebuilt and restored by the same shops who built the BBLMs for the Factory in 1979-1980, Sauro in Bologna and Bachelli & Villa in Modena as an absolutely indistinguishable duplicate of the factory BBLM. At the time (1990-1991) this project was started a Factory built 512 BBLM s/n 32131 was sold for $757,500 and Ferrari 512 BBLM s/n 29509 sold at the Tokyo Auction for $785,714. The period record price for a 512 BBLM was for s/n 35527, sold in Sept, 1989, at Coy’s Nürburgring sale for $1,300,000! Completed late 1994 /early 1995. The cost for the updates and conversion alone, not including buying the wrecked car, shipping, customs duty, project management, etc, was about 400.000.000 Lira or at the Lira to US dollar exchange rate of the time, app. $240,000 USD.

Lawrence Stroll had 512 BBLM conversion s/n 22255 and 250 GTO Replica s/n 3781 both built as “practice cars” to explore the racing limits of both the 512 BBLM and the GTO platform at the Monte Tremblant racetrack, the owner’s private race track in Quebec. Mr. Stroll also owns Factory 512 BBLM s/n 31589 and Factory 250 GTO s/n 3451, both far too valuable to use as “practice cars”. In 2000 Ferrari 512 BBLM conversion s/n 22255 was updated and further race prepared by John Hajduk, an Indiana-based expert on race preparing the 512 BBLMs. The fuel pumps were updated, the roll cage was re-welded and reinforced, a new oil tank with larger oil lines was fitted and a Tilton oil pump was fitted to the transaxle. A quick change steering wheel, much improved brakes, a Tilton Master cylinder assembly and a modern fire system were fitted. A full engine service was also done. 13 Sept., 2000, as per John Hajduk this is the best built 512 BBLM he has ever seen. 512 BBLM conversion 22255 was raced in the North American Ferrari Historic Challenge Series in 2000 and 2001.

In 2003 Ferraris-online LLC sold 512 BBLM conversion s/n 22255 to the current owner who has raced it at Pocono, Watkins Glen and Daytona. All service work from 2003 to 2012 has been done by Classic Coach Repair Inc. Elizabeth New Jersey at a cost of $126,491.29. Included in the service work was a complete engine rebuild and chassis Dyno tune in 2007 at a cost of $49,417.27. In Feb., 2012 the transaxle was rebuilt, a new ring and pinion, new limited differential and new side covers for differential were fitted and 512 BBLM replica s/n 22255 was dyno tested by Classic Coach Repair Inc. at a cost of $51,892.53 We have all invoices on file by PDF.

This 512 BBLM conversion is fully sorted, very fast, makes wonderful sounds and is reasonable to maintain and the lowest priced VARA, SCCA Vintage, and HSR eligible 12 cylinder race Ferrari available today, at far below the current cost of the base car, restoration and conversion

1977, Nov. 07, new to Roger Penske. Penske sent one of his people to Modena to collect the car. Somewhere about the Italian-Swiss border his driver crashed the car at high speed and destroyed the car.

Engine, gearbox and wreckage were shipped to the USA.

1990, 26 Apr., parts sold to a well known collector and shipped to Bologna, Italy, to the well known shops “Sauro”, a Factory authorized service center, in Bologna for the mechanical upgrades and “Bacchelli and Villa” (Auto-Sport) in Bastiglia for the substantial body and framework needed to be rebuilt into a 512 BBLM.

At that time a factory built 512 BBLM s/n 32131 was sold by Ron Spangler’s Prancing Horse Farm for $757,500 to Cory Johnson. N.Y. in August of 1990 and on March 31, 1991 Ferrari 512 BBLM s/n 29509 sold at the Tokyo Auction to Japanese collector Yoshiho Matsuda for $785,714. The period record price for a 512 BBLM was for s/n 35527, sold in Sept, 1989, at Coy’s Nürburgring sale to the Nyckeln Bank Group, Sweden, for $1,300,000!

1994, late–1995, early, completed. The cost for the conversion alone, not including buying the wrecked car, shipping, customs duty, project management, etc, was about 400.000.000 Lira or at the Lira to US dollar exchange rate of the time, app. $240,000 USD.

2000–2001, raced in the US Historic Ferrari Challenge.

2000, 13 Sept., as per conversation with John Hajduk this car is at his shop being updated and race prepared. John changes the fuel pumps to American pumps, rewelds and reinforces the roll bars, puts in a new oil tank with larger oil lines. He uses a Tilton oil pump in place of the two Bendix pumps for the transaxle. He puts on quick–change steering wheels. He changes the brakes and fits Brembos but he uses AP, Weldwoods, or whatever brakes the owner wants. John puts a Tilton Master cylinder assembly and a good fire system. The usual bill is about $15,000 per car. He also does the cam belts and a service. As per John this is the best built 512 BBLM he has ever seen.

2003, October, offered by Michael Sheehan’s www.Ferraris–online.com and eligible for racing in HSR, SCCA Vintage, VARA, and other events such as the Chicago Historic Races.

2003, October, sold to the current owner, New York and Florida.

2003, 26 Nov., service done by Classic Coach Repair Inc. 1007 S. Elmora Ave. Elizabeth New Jersey 07202. Invoice number 6367. Perform leak down and compression tests, change oil and filter, bleed brake system and replace fluids, replace fuel lines from distributer to injectors, new clamps and o-rings, fabricate and install front tow hook and aluminum front spoiler, repair fiberglass front inner panel, install temporary passenger seat, and two new five point seat belts, replace front and rear tires, mount and balance, purchase spare set of tires, complete car for track event. total invoice- $12,096.71.

2007, 13 Aug., service done by Classic Coach Repair Inc. Invoice number 8372. Rebuild complete engine, new bushing and pin fit, service rods recon big end, file fit rings, bore and power hone sleeves, balance assembly rod pistons crank, mike and polish crank, special machine clean complete engine block, fabricate and install electronic fuel injection system, set and map system on chassis dyno. Total invoice- $49,417.27.

2007, 14 Sept., service done by Classic Coach Repair Inc. Invoice number 9268. Service for Watkins Glen track event, perform race car check list inspection, fabricate custom radiator and install with electric fans, change motor oil and filter, bleed brake system and clutch, clean, polish, wax, and detail. Total invoice- $4,606.97.

2009, 09 Nov., service done by Classic Coach Repair Inc. Invoice number FECS11081. Remove right and left rear brake calipers, clean pistons and calipers, grease and reinstall pistons in calipers and reinstall calipers, install new air ducts for rear brakes, fabricate, install, and align new oil catch can for blow-by system, clean and detail before next event, perform race car check list inspection, replace motor oil and filter, run car and set to specification level, replace brake fluid and bleed system, overhaul steering rack on bench, replace fittings, grease and reassemble rack on bench, install steering rack back in car. Total invoice- $2,449.10.

2009, 20 Nov., 3 day track support for Daytona November 13-15, 2009. Includes race fuel and track support, transport to and from event. Total invoice- $3,745.37.

2009, 24 Nov., service done by Classic Coach Repair Inc. Invoice number FECS11350. Service for track event, Daytona November 2009. Check car per race inspection check list, change motor oil and filter, run car and set to specification level, replace brake fluid and bleed systems, remove bleeder screws, clean and reinstall, remove left and right axles, overhaul inner and outer c/v joints on bench, install new protection boots and clamps, reinstall axles, weld crack in exhaust system, clean, wax, and detail car before next event. Total invoice- $2,147.31.

2012, 01 Feb., service done by Classic Coach Repair Inc. Invoice number FECS11498. remove transmission and check for damages, disassemble all gearbox, fabricate custom rings and pinion for the transmission, new limited differential assembly, and cover for differential, gaskets, o rings, conveyor, bearings, ball race, float syncro, replace the battery, run car at the dyno, test ok, new oil and filter. Total invoice- $51,892.53.

2012, 11 Sept., service done by Classic Coach Repair Inc. Invoice number FECS13213. Service for track event, Watkins Glen September 2012. Remove right axle, overhaul c/v joints an replace clips, remove left axle and replace c/v joints, reinstall right and left axle, remove and inspect rear brake calipers and bleed out lines, run car on dyno and check axles, remove wheels and have re-balanced, remove left rear wheel well panel an repair fiberglass. Total invoice- $1,417.53.

2012, 11 Sept., service done by Classic Coach Repair Inc. Invoice number FECS13155. Perform check list inspection, bleed rake and clutch systems, set brake and clutch fluid to specification level, replace tires, dismount, mount, and balance, remove fire bottle, re-charge and re-install, remove old belts and install new belts, fabricate and install mounting plate for new six point belt. Total invoice- $2,463.87.

Total cost of repairs from 2003 through 2012: $126,491.29.
